We are excited to kick off the 2019-2020 Colonial Players season with The Giver. Sets will be minimal. Characters will take the audience on the journey through strong storytelling and stellar acting.
A few things to know about our show:
All residents of this world, including the adults, should speak in natural contemporary ways – NOT as emotionless robots. The strangeness of this society appears in word choices and what is not said, rather than in “science fiction” behavior.
We have received permission to change the gender of the Giver character providing the flexibility for us to cast either a male or female.
We have requested permission for some other characters, but have not received word back. If we receive approval for any other characters, I will let you know.
As always, make BOLD character choices. This is not the time to play it safe! Be sure to read the character descriptions and read about the show online.
Students should try and memorize as much as possible. This will allow you to focus on projecting (speaking loudly) with diction and cheating out to the audience (instead of reading from a page).
Audition materials may also be used for callbacks.
Auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 10th in the auditorium following school. Callbacks will be later that night following the open auditions. Be sure to bring snacks.
Registration is now open. Please go to http://colonialplayers.org/auditions/index.php before September 10th. Please be sure to include a photo of yourself.
